Our History

Dunns of Dublin has a rich and vibrant history – we are Irelands oldest fish processing. The company was established by Joseph Dunn in 1822 after he took a vow of abstinence from alcohol and in turn converted his public house into a fish mongers.  From these early beginnings, the Dunns family business grew from strength to strength and overtime, became synonymous in Ireland with quality and freshness. The name Dunns is linked forever to the novels of James Joyce when Mr. Daudilous went to Dunns to buy his Christmas turkey.

Through the centuries, the company diversified as required and thus changed location several times as each premises became out-dated due to the increasing demands placed upon the company year by year. Finally the company settled in its current state of the art facility in Finglas where it has continued to thrive until this day. Our customers range from domestic to international. Our smoked salmon salmon has travelled all over the world gracing the tables of many including royalty.

The company had remained a Dunns family concern right up until February 2006 when Peter and Gerard Dunn sold the business to Oceanpath another Irish family run fish company. Oceanpath has invested heavily in the company in order to ensure that it moves in the right direction throughout the next century – continuing the long history of innovation and progress which has been attributed to Dunns of Dublin’s long standing success. Recent developments include:

  •  New NPD & training facilities
  •  State of the art computer systems
  •  Complete traceability systems
  •  Company Re-branding
  •  New value added production line
